Safety Tip

April 2005 Safety Tip

Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety

Pedestrians

A college campus can grow extremely congested with vehicles, bicyclists, skateboarders and of course pedestrians. It is important as, a pedestrian, to obey traffic laws and maintain an awareness of potential hazards.

- Obey traffic control signals
- Avoid walking on the roadway when sidewalks are provided
- Pedestrians must yield to all vehicles when crossing at point where there is no crosswalk

Bicyclists must:

- Obey Traffic Control Devices
- Avoid riding on the sidewalk
- Yield to pedestrians
- Use front headlight and rear reflector at night

Being on a college campus, it is especially important to be alert to traffic and pedestrians. Respect pedestrians and reduce speed on shared pathways.
